Closing a Chapter

Day 29 and Day 30

I don’t like endings or to end things. I’m not good at transitions either. After an ending, something new will start. I know that there is a lot of potential in times of transitions, but I like to keep things the way they are, for better or for worse.
Now, many projects are coming to an end at the same time. My sweater is almost finished, I am writing the final touches of the meditations for our May Ritual. April will be over, which means I won’t share my practice weekly.
I am reluctant to finish the second sleeve and put the meditations into their final versions. I am also procrastinating on making the garlands for our ritual. Once they are done, I won’t be able to gestate their shape and color and plants anymore. They will exist, outside of me.
But I also know that finishing projects provides a sense of accomplishment. It will feel good to complete the sweater, as I will get to wear it. It will feel good to complete the garlands, as we will need them for our ritual. The garlands made as gifts will also bring a ceremonial vibe to those receiving. And there will be enough emotional space for new beginnings and my next projects.

Here are my take-aways from writing poetry every day for the month of April.

I highly enjoyed reflecting on my writing practice.

I am not the person who will write a poem every day. That just seems forced to me. But when I am putting an effort in, I can write more frequently. Over the course of April I have written ten poems. Before that, I wrote ten new poems in about four months.

During the first two weeks I was working on short forms of poetry too, like a verse or word or a haiku, which became a little exhausting.
During the last two weeks, I allowed myself to work on a poem over several days. It was ok to not have an instant final product every time.

There are still unfinished poems from this month. I may or may not complete and share them.

I am still figuring out how to incorporate this practice into my writing without the intention of a daily piece of poetry or a weekly share.

I intend to do the same in April 2022.
