Two eyes out
a heron flies by
folded neck, extended legs
of course I see him
the day I turn my back on the birds

Two eyes in
a dream of two barn owls
in a sky filled with dusk
the church they call their home
burns to the ground

Two eyes in
a dream of being seen from the sky
by a great horned owl so intensely
her golden eyes pierce through me

One eye in and one eye out
a silver silken cocoon
I am growing feathers
my emotions intertwined
with the birds in the sky
always bringing me home
